Playing the top team is challenging and rewarding

Unsurprisingly, Sturt IV (7th on the ladder) was outplayed by Kensington Marryatville II (1st on the ladder) at home, on Wednesday 18 February 2026.

Phil McCartney, team leader of Sturt IV, said his team "had a good start but we were gradually overcome by a resolute, talented opposition. "

"All three Kensington Marryatville rinks had experienced bowlers. Joe Capasso was our most consistent player."

Looking past the score-line, Sturt IV featured a number of players in either their first or second year of pennants, as well as some other players with only a bit more experience than that.

Just one of these newer players is Geoff Mansfield, playing in his second season. And performing the demanding role of Third.

He is profiled in the feature photo demonstrating an impressive technique and obvious determination.

All the photos below show the Sturt players applying themselves to the challenges of playing against the top team in the Division and their reward is learning from it.
