Sturt remains in the top four but there are concerns

Alan Ludlow, team leader of Sturt III, reports on a close finish and loss to the neighbouring Millswood club on Saturday 31 January 2026.

"Third placed Sturt III played second placed Millswood III at home in what we knew would be a hard fought game. Unfortunately, Millswood came out top by 8 shots with each team winning two rinks."

Here is Alan's report:

The rink of Marrollo, Bolton, Esdale and Dunstan (skip) was was not able to seriously challenge their opponent but ensured the deficit didn’t escalate.

The rink of Kavanagh, Spinelli, Saunders and Wood (skip) also had a loss and were beaten by better opponents on the day.

The rink of McVicar, Jeffrey, Swansson and Lymn (skip) had an 8 shot win as a result of the “front end” providing bowls in the head for most of the game, with Ward and Brett adding or converting when required.

The rink of Speck, Trenerry, Pye and Ludlow (skip) had a hard fought 3 shot win due to winning 10 shots on the eleventh to thirteenth ends. Overall each player won their position.

Whilst Sturt III remains in the top four, the concern is that since the Christmas break we have had five games, with one abandoned and the other four have been losses.

We need to win to win two of our last four games if we want to play finals, bearing in mind two of our upcoming games are teams placed first and second.
