One of the pleasures of the growth in women's bowls at Sturt has been seeing our players increasingly venture beyond metropolitan Adelaide to compete in country carnivals and special events.
Last weekend, Janine Skurray, Sonia Matteucci, Diana Frankcom and Maria Canala continued that tradition by heading to Waikerie for the club's annual Spring Carnival.
Sturt was one of the metropolitan clubs represented in a field that drew bowlers from across South Australia and Victoria, including Streaky Bay, Tumby Bay, Port Neill, Port Augusta, Moonta, Yorketown, Ardrossan, Port Elliot, Murray Bridge, Swan Reach, Kapunda and Karoonda.
And judging by Janine's report, the Sturt contingent didn't exactly slip into Waikerie unnoticed.

Sonia and Diana played all three days, Saturday to Monday.
Maria and I arrived lunchtime on Saturday.
We caught up Saturday night for a magnificent dinner at the Waikerie Hotel where many bowls visitors were dining.
All very friendly.
Saturday we played fours.
On Sunday, random cards, we drew each other for the first of three games, which was great fun.
The next day, several players mentioned our joyful, noisy games, lol.
Monday it was pairs triples and Maria and I were getting to know the greens a lot better.
We have never had to play such a wide draw or fast green.
Artificial and under a dome, a beautiful club.
There were teams from as far as the west coast to the south east and everything in between.
