What went through the mind of our President, Rocket, yesterday, on a day of drama at Sturt? To set the scene in your mind, see the photo of the determined Nick Manglaras bowling in the face of driving rain; and that rain was followed by lightning that forced even the unflappable John Griffith to head for the comfort of the clubrooms.
After the first burst of lightning and Rocket had called for the 72 players to flee to the safety of the clubhouse, Rocket put his own safety aside and strode to the middle of B Green and carefully looked to the sky for any more signs of lightning. At this dramatic moment in time, captured in the photos, what was he thinking about?
We soon found out when he gave a fine speech for the assembled group, following their early afternoon tea and the second burst of lightning. In his speech, Rocket expressed thanks to the sandwich makers (Angela Murray, Lyn Witt, Pammie Rowe and Julie Short), bar staff, raffle sellers and others, before giving a special thanks to the President of Colonel Light Gardens - who was in the audience - for that club's warm welcoming of Sturt players last year, during the finals series.
But then Rocket became a bit emotional in disclosing the two things foremost on his mind that day.
First, he had woken at 4am to the sound of heavy rain and was worried about how early that day he would receive the inevitable phone call from Lyn Witt to ask if the games were going ahead today and whether sandwiches were needed.
Second, we then learnt what was going through his mind when he stood, heroically and alone, studying the sky for more signs of lightning. He was worried, he said, about the impact of an early finish - and then bowlers departing - on the day's bar takings.
