Peter Malinauskus – conscious, genius skip or blissfully unaware?
This question arose at Night Owls last week when Peter, the longstanding skip of Royal Routines, was caught on camera using a range of mysterious gestures and movements.
Some of his skip gestures defied normal explanation. In some photos, he seems to be talking to the bowls, asking them to slow down; in another photo, he seems to be signalling to his team-mates to bowl both shorter and longer.
Whether he is a conscious genius or not, his unique methods seemed to work, as his side defeated the respected Here Kitty Kitty, 20-8.
When we asked him afterwards if we could publish the photos, he volunteered what his team mates thought of his distinctive signalling:
“Apparently my team mates see this stuff in me and make ‘inappropriate’ commentary.”
Was he conscious of his unique methods?
“Thankfully - up until now - I was blissfully unaware.”
