Izzy Trenorden, club coach and team leader of Sturt I against Glenelg I on Saturday 7 February 2026, encouraged the team before the game not to try to be heroic:
"A warmer day Saturday and a huge game in the context of our season.
"Our messaging pre game wasn’t so much that we have to go and be anything heroic, rather that we just keep playing our role and enjoying ourselves."
As always, Glenelg was a tough opponent, requiring a special response from Sturt, said Izzy:
"Whilst we were up at the break, it certainly was still game on and Glenelg still showed why they’re a top 4 team.
"In saying that, we showed why we are the top team with some great performances from players across the rinks."
Izzy was specific about some of those great performances on the day:
"Shane Ettridge and Weeksy combined really well to put on a 10 shot win; Nathan Bassett and Puzzle were also really strong in their front end.
"Henk Pelgrim was on fire Saturday, strongly backed up by Paul Clohesy and Stephen Jones playing some great bowls when it mattered.
"Jack Trenorden played some big bowls when it counted but should have gone on to put on a big score. Jack seemed to find every gap imaginable.
"Steve Van Der Veen was strong on the mat, with Welshy and Kim Keane backing up as required."
