The large crowd attending the Open Singles Championship Final on Saturday 28 March 2026 was treated to a remarkably high standard and dramatic game by club icons Jonathan Webster and Izzy Trenorden.
It was close in the early ends, then Izzy broke away to a 14-9 lead, only for Jono to progressively reduce that lead, setting the scene for an unforgettable last two ends.
In the penultimate end, Izzy was holding three only for Jono to bravely take the jack into the ditch and follow it in. Izzy's next bowl got close, but not close enough.
And the same on the last end: first Izzy was up, then Jono fought back.
The full set of 82 photos and 14 videos capture some of that tension and high standard of play, including the tension and respect shown on the faces in the crowd.
Huge congratulations to both players for the way they conducted themselves throughout an enthralling match.
And to Paul Clohesy, the marker who had to absorb the tension and remain calm.
To ease your tension, we have not removed the audio from the videos.
Mostly you'll hear the local birds chatting, but on some of the videos you will hear the voice of popular club member Riley Harrison, who was sitting with Christopher Smyth, next to the photographer.
Wine-maker Riley might have been practising for a future side gig as a live sports commentator, using gripping comments during the videoing of the bowls final, like "Hold, son", "Crack", "He loves it" and "Oh. Ooooh."
