Winter Bowls Results, 18 April 2026

As the temperature reached 24.5 degrees as play was winding up last Saturday afternoon, 42 bowlers could not have been happier with the sun shining, the greens running well and an opportunity to have an friendly but competitive outing with friends.

Paul Clohesy claimed daily champion status being able to spring out of the blocks with a first game +12 and backed up with a closing +9 in tandem with Lethal Libby Lock and +21 overall.

Bob Rutten +21 also but beaten on a countback and was left to reflect what could have been. The effervescent Stew Allen +17, Libby Lock +15 and Nick Managlaras +11 filled the other minor places. Libby Lock collecting points in the first two days has an early hold on the Saturday Winter Shield.

We move forward with terrific weather forecast for this week. On the refreshment front, the decision by bar managers to replace Heineken with Southwark Stout on tap was causing some grumblings albeit stout connoisseurs such as Ed Parker, Vicki Kavanagh & Rod Stuart will correctly relate that any season is stout season!

Keep the bowls rolling well.
