What's bigger at Sturt than winning a pennant flag?
One possible answer is being crowned the photogenic winner of the club's prestigious — but entirely unofficial — Photo of the Year award.
A handful of male members have dominated the competition in 2026.
There's Alex Smith, photographed as Braveheart during the winning Grand Final; Stewie Allen, making his Return of the Orangutan at Winter Bowls; Deane Pye, attempting to devour a paper cup using no hands during the epic Open Championship Singles final between Jono and Izzy; and Stephen Jones, regularly displaying his dance moves on the green.
Meanwhile, perennial funny guys Adam Hill, Steve van der Veen, Ralph Hounslow, Frank Sabatino and Nick Manglaras remain ever-ready to spring a surprise pose.
Surely it's time for a woman to wrest the award from the men?
There are some promising contenders. Lesley Dunstall has her jiving, Sonia Matteucci her dramatic gestures, and Cheryl Saunders her trademark twists and turns on the mat.
But on Thursday 15 October, a surprise challenger emerged.
During the opening — and tense — Division 1 match for Sturt's women's team, the normally composed Victoria Kavanagh suddenly produced a remarkable sequence of triumphant, flamboyant and downright extravagant moves as she changed ends.
What on earth was Victoria doing?
Frankly, it doesn't matter.
What matters is that her extraordinary performance, captured for posterity in the Feature Photo and reinforced in the following series of photographs, has propelled her into serious contention for Photo of the Year.
The men have been warned.
