Plenty of positives for Wednesday sides

There was plenty to encourage Sturt’s Wednesday pennant sides on 21 October 2026, with Sturt I, III and IV recording strong wins and Sturt II narrowly missing out at Beaumont.

At home, Sturt I continued its impressive start to the season by winning all five rinks, while Sturt IV’s victory lifted the side four places on the ladder.

And despite going down by just six shots, Sturt II produced two convincing rink wins and remained highly competitive throughout the afternoon.

Reports from three of the four Team Leaders follow. (Only two match reports were requested – to accompany the two sets of photographs of two home games – but a third report was submitted; and gratefully received.)

Sturt I report from Team Leader Richard Weeks

Sturt I hosted Edwardstown 1 in our first home game of the season.

After a very pleasing win in round 1 it was important to perform at a similar level and make it extremely hard for visiting teams to win at the Sturtress.

In another very pleasing result all five rinks won, by a total of 48 shots up. A maximum 20 points were added to our tally of 18 from last week.

We move on to next week against Clarence Gardens.

Sturt II report from Team Leader Wyatt Groth

On a perfect spring day for bowling, the Sturt II team headed up the hill to face Beaumont.

The greens were a touch slower than they are at home, and Beaumont handled them a bit better than us, with Sturt going down by just six shots overall, 107–101.

The four of McVicar, Mullins, Hughes and Groth and the triple of Catterall, Ludlow and Pye both had 11-shot wins.

But unfortunately the three other rinks all lost by margins that couldn't quite make up the difference.

Next round we will be back at the Sturtress to face our Unley Cup rivals in Millswood.

Sturt IV report from Team Leader Dean Buder

In great weather conditions, Sturt IV (4 East) played Toorak Burnside III.

The final score was Sturt 67, Toorak Burnside 55.

Sturt now jumps from 11th to 7th on the ladder – so this was a significant win.

Martin Fry's team won 25–12 and right from the start never looked like losing.

A good effort by Neville Robinson and good back-up from Richard Bolton and Robert Milsom. A successful team.

Brian Dunstall's team struggled most of the day as Toorak Burnside players largely controlled the head.

Peter Mann's team had two concentration lapses where Toorak Burnside scored two fives, giving them 10 out of their 18 total.

Christopher Smyth gave a solid start on Peter Mann’s rink.

Overall, the good teamwork and rapport on the day augurs well for the future.
