Sturt II buzzing as Sturt IV builds, Thursday 22 October 2026

There was plenty of energy around Sturt’s women’s sides playing at home on Thursday 22 October.

Sturt II continued its flying start to the season with another dominant performance, while Sturt IV showed further signs of progress against tough opposition from Glenelg.

Team coach Alan Catterall reports on two sides enjoying their bowls and continuing to build.

Our first warm day and after a 50-shot victory in round one, there was a certain buzz around the green for the first end.

And it didn’t take long: “8” came the cry from Wendy Adams, quickly joined by Julie Short and Lesley Dunstall – “I’ve never had an 8,” said skipper Janet Mullins.

Off to a flyer and things didn’t slow down.

Sonia Matteucci’s rink missed their own 8 by millimetres and proudly declared a 7.

Not to be outdone, Cheryl Saunders’s rink finished the day with 39–5 – a rink of the day performance.

This team is similar to last year’s side but more experienced, tighter as a group and really enjoying their bowls.

Well done, ladies!

Sturt IV report by Alan Catterall

Two weeks into the season and we’ve once again fielded a side without those bothersome OGs (other gender) – Dave Paley excepted.

The new substitute rule allowed Evie Sinclair and Patsy Dixon to swap mid-game – what a progressive move.

Glenelg were tough and gave our ladies nothing, but Angela Murray’s rink prevailed and Briony Lia and Marie Wright kept their rinks to single-figure losses.

A very respectable scoreline in trying conditions.
