In recent years, Sturt has been fortunate to have two outstanding people, Mel (Melissa Cheesbrough) and Tami (Ni Made Dwi Murtami), working behind the bar and in the kitchen.
Their professionalism, attentiveness and good cheer have been highly valued by Sturt members and visiting teams alike.
Their personal stories — recorded on the club website — of meeting challenges and forging ahead have also moved many members.
Two new members of the team have commenced work in recent weeks and have already made an excellent impression, suggesting that those high standards will continue.
Scarlett Clegg (left in the feature photo) and Jacky Bougessis also bring interesting stories of their own.
Scarlett Clegg
Scarlett is currently taking a gap year before resuming her studies next year, when she hopes to pursue either medicine or a career as a pilot.
Away from study, one of her interests is playing the drums.
This year Scarlett is juggling five part-time jobs, including her work at Sturt.
One of her other jobs, at a bakery, led to her meeting regular customer and Sturt member Matthew Jeffrey, providing her initial connection with the club.
Since starting at Sturt, she has been struck by the friendliness of members.
Jacky Bougessis
For the past 20 years, Jacky has run her weekend business, The Enchanted Palace – Children’s Disco Parties, from her dedicated venue at Prospect.
She also enjoys working out at the gym and taking long walks with her dog.
Most weeks, she takes a 10 km walk with Sturt member Sonia Matteucci, whom she played volleyball with for many years.
Jacky says she had some spare time during the week and likes to keep busy, so she welcomed the opportunity to take on part-time work at Sturt.
She has quickly come to appreciate the club’s happy, easy-going atmosphere.
