Club Coach and Sturt I Team Leader Izzy Trenorden introduced the term “Bowls IQ” to the club last season.
In his report on Saturday’s match against Rosewater I, he provides some practical examples of what it means.
For Izzy, Bowls IQ includes understanding the opposition’s strengths, communicating well throughout the match, putting bowls in the right areas to maintain pressure, and starting strongly.
It also means maintaining concentration and performance for all 21 ends — and continuing to fight for a win on every rink, even when the overall result has already been secured.
Report by Izzy Trenorden
Another solid day for Sturt I on Saturday 17 October 2026.
Rosewater have been in and around Division 2 for many years and they had enough talent on each rink for that to be reflected on the scoreboards.
The key messaging at the start of the game was to really nail that area 1-2 feet past the jack, knowing that Rosewater are a long-term Division 2 team and they’ll punish us if we don’t have bowls in the head or leave things jack high.
Three of our rinks came out of the blocks early which put the wind in the sails to carry on.
Alex’s rink had a very slow start but fought back to nearly jag two points.
Shane Ettridge’s rink also had the chance to win on the last end, where Ettridge needed a 4-foot trail of the jack for 3 for the win.
The scores on both Alex’s and Shane’s rinks reflect their efforts to win the rink when the overall score was wrapped up.
If the overall score was within a couple of shots, then their scores would look different. Credit to both rinks for giving themselves a chance at the 2 points.
We had great voice and there were a lot of good things happening on all rinks from end 1 to 21.
A good performance and those two rink losses will make us stronger over the coming weeks.
