Believe in yourself and your mate, says Peter Welsh, in 4E Sturt II v Toorak Burnside II, Saturday 6 December 2025

Selector and Life Member, Peter Welsh, was reflective and determined after Sturt II was doing well on three rinks before falling, late in the game, to Toorak Burnside II on Saturday.

"A very strong performance from Russell Moore, Peter Drabsch, Mick Spinelli and David McVicar to win 31-10. Well done guys.

"I suppose a lot of us have been in a similar position, a big rink win but a disappointing team loss. You feel robbed, you feel let down. These feelings are normal. It is a team game. Win again next week guys.

"On the flip side, Youngie's rink battled all game and was well beaten. We all have been there. Heads up boys, get your feedback in asap and attack next week."

"I think Teesa and myself and our respective rinks would be wondering 'how did we lose that one'? Both rinks in it all day, bar the last end. We both should have won but...."

Looking ahead to the remainder of the season, Peter refuses to believe Sturt II is not good enough for Division 4:

"Sturt II are now in serious trouble and in the demotion area. This side was promoted last season after a great pennant win and I refuse to believe we are not good enough to be competitive in Division 4. Our top side needs us to fight and hold our position.

"We all need to be more steely, care more and concentrate more.

"Toorak Burnside never gave up. They just believed they would win. Sometimes that is enough. Belief.

"Belief in yourself and belief in your mate standing next to you."

The photos from the game provide some basis for optimism that Sturt II is steely enough to bounce back in the second half of the season.
