A great win and one to build on, says Gerry Dillon

Gerry Dillon, team leader of Sturt II in the game against Clarence Gardens II, Saturday 17 January, provided a detailed report on the game's ebbs and flows, before declaring it a great win.

"It was a bit tough for the whole side on Saturday as we all found it difficult to adjust both weight and grass – not what we want in a home game.

"All rinks had to contend with the usual bugbears of short bowls and over-correction.

"The short bowls are a real curse, and I’ll put my hand up as an offender. ‘On or beyond’ certainly needs to be an ongoing focus.

"Having said that, we all put in some great bowls when needed.

"Our teamwork and cohesion across all rinks really came to the fore as we covered for each other’s indiscretions and stepped up at crucial times.

"As a side we got off to a solid start, let it slip back to a 5 shot lead, then steadied to finish with a 15 shot win on the board with three rinks ahead."

Gerry's own rink of Cathy Stevens, Wyatt Groth and Kym Pratt - seen in the feature photo after a half-time huddle - had a decisive 31-18 win.

Gerry summed up: "That was a great win, and one to build on, as it puts us out of the relegation zone if not in the comfort zone.
