Result decided on the final end, reports Alan Ludlow

The final end can bring about a change in fortune, and this time Sturt missed out.

Alan Ludlow, Team Leader of Sturt IV in the game against Hawthorn V on Saturday 17 January, said it was "a disappointing loss by one shot, with the result decided on the 84th end. "

"At the start of the last end Sturt were up overall by two shots, but we dropped a three.

"It was a game we expected to win given we were playing Hawthorn V at home, who were below us the ladder.

"A win would have consolidated our position in the top four."

Despite the overall loss, there were some encouraging achievements, said Alan: "a pleasing feature was that several of our rinks were down in the first half of the game but came back strongly.

"This resulted in two rink wins (Deane Pye's team of Silvio Marrollo, Peter Drabsch and David Beales; and Alan's own rink of Alan Speck, Lyn Witt and Ward Swansson), one draw and one loss."
