It’s great to be part of a side that shows such strong teamwork and never gives up

Gerry Dillon, chair of selectors and team leader of Sturt III on Saturday 21 February 2026, in the game against Payneham IV, saw it as "a danger game".

"We were still hunting a finals spot and played the bottom side who have caused difficulty in the past.

"That made it essential to make a strong start and control the momentum."

The initial Sturt tactics were sound, but the heat had an impact later in the game:

"Conditions at Sturt were brilliant as usual, although both sides took time to adjust to the faster pace of the greens.

"Across all rinks we saw our sides build excellent heads, keep the encouragement up, and out-think the opposition.

"Across all our rinks, too, we saw a few untidy heads in the last few ends as the heat and humidity took a toll."

It was a strong performance across all four rinks, said Gerry:

"My rink, with Vicki Kavanagh, Mick Spinelli and Wyatt Groth, got off to a flier and we had a solid win despite falling away a bit at the end.

"Despite a slower start on other rinks, we saw a strong comeback across the board to register a strong side win with three rinks up and a narrow loss on the fourth.

"It’s great to be part of a side that shows such strong teamwork and never gives up."
