While we were always behind on the scoreboard, our inexperienced team stuck to their task

Matthew Jeffrey, coach of Sturt IV against Club Tranmere III on Thursday 5 February 2026, said the conditions were testing for the group:

"It was rather warm and the strong wind and fast green made conditions challenging."

Additionally, Sturt's team included some new players including Andrea Glynn and Patsy Dixon, and their photos in the set below suggest they have considerable potential.

"We knew it would be a tough game against experienced opponents," said Matthew

So before the game, he discussed with the team "the importance of building the head and adapting to the conditions."

"While we were always behind on the scoreboard, our inexperienced team stuck to their task. The opposition were just a little more consistent."

Despite the loss, Matthew sees positives ahead:

"Our players are making real improvements and learning as they play. Not an easy thing to do. We are only going to get better.

"With experience we will get better at working out when we need to defend and when we need to attack.

"Each rink battled hard. Ros Carman made her debut as a skipper and showed a real penchant for upshots.

"Angela Murray's rink - with Paul Badenoch, Marieke Taplin and Briony Lia - managed a win to give us some well deserved points."

Matthew added that he was "very thankful that I was able to assist the team and I enjoyed wonderful support from all the players."
