Major (ret.) Deane Pye leads Anzac Day ceremony

On Anzac Day 2026, respected club member Major (retired) Deane Pye, with background assistance from Paul Teesdale, led a short and moving ceremony at the club, to commemorate the 58,500 who served in the Gallipoli campaign and the 11,000 who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Standing in front of over 50 club members, Deane noted that Anzac Day has developed into a day of commemorating the 1.5m Australians who served and the 103,000 who died in all Australian military operations.

He also said that today is not about the glorification of war but about the bravery, integrity, service and loss of life of Australians who went to war.

He added that the Honour Boards in the clubrooms include many names of members who served in war.

Deane recited the Ode of Remembrance, the refrain Lest We Forget was repeated, the Last Post was played, a minute's silence was observed, the Reveille was played and flag protocols were observed.
