We will really surge forward when we can start games as fiercely as we finish them

Matt Jeffrey, coach of Sturt IV against Beaumont III on Thursday 19 February 2026, said the game was played in "deceptively warm conditions".

"Before the game, with a fast green we discussed the importance of building the head and working as a team.

"Beaumont III has been a consistent team all year.

"So, as coach, I took the slightly unconventional approach of comparing our team with Joan of Arc, who achieved great things from humble beginnings."

It was a tough day:

"While we continued to battle away and make up some ground, our opposition were just that little more consistent.

"I was impressed by how we managed to hang in there.

"We will really surge forward when we can start games as fiercely as we finish them."

Matt singled out some players for their special efforts:

"Celina Read made a really good fist of skippering for the first time.

"Denis Taylor's commentary kept us entertained during the game.

"Angela Murray (with Max Clark, Gill Potter and Briony Lia) had a hard fought rink win.

"And Briony is fast becoming our team's enforcer."

The photos below show the determination of all the players.
