The delighted organiser Deane Pye reported that Sturt's Adelaide Cup Two Bowls Triples Tournament, now in its seventeenth year, was booked out, with 78 participants in 26 teams of three.
There were 12 Sturt teams and 14 teams from other clubs.
Deane, who has overseen the last six tournaments, said it was "a picture-perfect day for the event, 25 degrees with very little wind."
"The greens were running quickly and true, extremely well prepared by James Gregory."
The winning team was composed of two Lockleys players and one from Sturt - Stephen Jones. A Henley team came second and Walkerville third.
And there was plenty of activity off the green:
"The raffle was a cracker," said Deane. "Terrific donations by club members provided a varied and interesting choice for our participants.
"There were over 26 prizes. 200 tickets at $5 per ticket were sold, making it the most successful raffle ever!"
Sharon Gray, resplendent in the Pink Ladies outfit, put in a cameo performance as the star auctioneer:
"We also had an auction of three items that earned a further $450 for the club.
"The fun auction was very professionally conducted by Sharon Gray and was enjoyed by all.
"Successful bidders were Bob Rutten, Peter Welsh and Derrick Witt."
The entertainment continued:
"During the lunch break Jim Field gave us another excellent Adelaide Cup faux call.
"We conducted three sweeps at $5 a horse paying out on 1st, 2nd and 3rd on Jim’s call."
Deane gave "a big shout out to Noal Mullins who at the very last minute filled in for a TBBC side that lost a team member just before the start. Well done to Noal."
Similarly, Sonia Matteucci stepped forward when another player had to withdraw the night before.
A proud Deane summed up:
"The tournament drew great praise for its conduct, the presentation of the club and greens and the weather we turned on.
"Many said they will be back next year.
"A big thank you to all the Sturt volunteers who make the event the success it is. Well done to you all."
