Every bowler carries secret worries.
Some are carefully hidden.
Others are discussed loudly around the bar after games.
To help our Sturt members through their difficult issues, we proudly present our new advice column featuring Wally the Worried Bowler and the internationally unqualified expert, Dr Tufflove.
Here is this week’s problem and advice.
Dear Dr Tufflove,
One of my teammates told me my bowls are too large for my hands.
Ever since then, I’ve completely lost confidence in my bowls.
I now stand on the mat wondering whether I should even be holding them.
What should I do?
Wally the Worried Bowler
Dr Tufflove responds:
Boy, you’ve got three options.
Option 1: Ignore your mate completely.
And get new friends.
Most bowling advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.
Option 2: Sneak into the club’s "bowls room" and secretly practice holding smaller bowls.
If anyone catches you, deny everything.
Option 3: Retire immediately from all bowls competitions and spend several months rebuilding your confidence through meditation, long walks and sausage sizzles.
Personally, I recommend Option 1. Ignore your mate.
But if your mate has already commented on your grip, delivery, stance, weight control and line … it may already be too late.
