Sunshine and surprisingly quick greens welcomed bowlers to Winter Bowls on Wednesday, 15 July 2026.
Several heavyweight contests added an extra edge to the afternoon, including Richard Weeks against Paul Teesdale, Tommy Morgan against Ralph Hounslow, Steve van der Veen against Cathy Stevens, Deane Pye against Russell Moore, Karen Esdale against Di Fullerton, and Robb Nuus against Kim Keane.
Elsewhere, there was a contest of a different kind, with the ever-determined Silvio Marrollo meeting his match in the humour stakes in Wendy Adams.
The unofficial Brightest Bowler Award was never really in doubt. Dave Paley, resplendent in his blazing orange 1964 top, won by a country mile.
As the photos show, our welcome visitors from neighbouring clubs once again added their skill, friendship and good spirit to the day.
Meanwhile, Deane Pye continued to keep everyone guessing, alternating between his trusty bowling arm and the conventional delivery. Whether he is conducting a scientific experiment or simply refusing to reveal his plans remains known only to Deane.
